Fluoxymesterone is used for:
- Stimulating puberty in males who experience delayed onset of puberty
- Treatment of deficiency of male hormone (testosterone)
- Treatment of breast cancer in an advanced stage in women who are one to five years post menopause
Fluoxymesterone is an androgen that functions effectively and is known to stimulate normal growth and development of the vital sex organs in men and also sustain normal secondary sex features and characteristics. It is yet to be known how exactly Fluoxymesterone functions to treat and cure breast cancer.
Do not use Fluoxymesterone if:
- During pregnancy or while you are planning a pregnancy
- In case you are suffering from breast cancer
- In case you having prostate cancer
- If you are aware of the fact that you develop allergies to any of the constituents of the drug

Before using Fluoxymesterone:

Fluoxymesterone may interact with certain medicines. You must inform your healthcare provider about all the medicines you plan to have concurrently with this drug.
Medicines such as carbamazepine, anticoagulants (eg. warfarin), corticosteroids (eg.prednisone), oxyphenbutazone, or macrolide immunosuppressants (eg, tacrolimus) may interact with Fluoxymesterone and their actions as well as side effects may intensify.
This is not a conclusive list of all medicines that may interact with Fluoxymesterone. You must make it a point to inform your healthcare provider of all the medicines you intend to continue side by side with this drug. How to use Fluoxymesterone:
Have Fluoxymesterone according to the instructions of your doctor. You must always go through the label on the medicine to verify the correct dosing directions.
You may or may not have food with Fluoxymesterone. You should however, definitely have these drugs with food, if stomach upset occurs. This minimizes stomach irritation.
On missing a dose of this medicine you must have the missed dose at the earliest possible. In case the next scheduled dose is almost due, take the due dose and skip the missed dose. You should make it a point to enquire further about missed doses from your doctor, as he may give you specific instructions. Never take a double dose to compensate for a missed dose.
Important safety information:
Diabetes patients should exercise caution as Fluoxymesterone may influence blood sugar levels. Keep a constant watch over your blood sugar levels and seek your doctor’s permission and opinion before you adjust the dose of diabetes control medicine.
Fluoxymesterone may comprise tartrazine dye (FD&C Yellow No. 5) that may trigger allergic reactions in particular cases. If you are known to be allergic to tartrazine, ask your healthcare provider or the pharmacist whether the medicine concerned contains tartrazine.
Young male patients who are on this drug for the treatment of delayed puberty should go for regular check ups every six months to check whether bone development is taking place satisfactorily.
You should go for laboratory tests specially blood cholesterol and liver function test to closely monitor the response to therapy and also to keep an eye on probable side effects. Try your best to keep all laboratory tests as well as doctor appointments.
In case of elderly patients, this drug should be administered with reasonable amount of caution as they may be extra-sensitive to the effects of this drug and may develop prostate problems.
This drug is considered unsuitable for children as its effectiveness and safety have not yet been established.
Avoid the use of Fluoxymesterone if you are pregnant. If in case you feel that you may be pregnant consult your doctor at once. As it has not yet been proved beyond doubt that this drug may be excreted in breast milk, it is safe to stop breast feeding if you are on this drug.
Possible side effects of Fluoxymesterone:
Most medicines may trigger side effects which may range from serious, mild to negligible from person to person. You should consult your doctor if any of the side effects occur, persist and become a cause of concern.
Swelling of the clitoris, prolonged and painful erection; absence of menstrual flow; irregular menstrual flow; changes in sexual desire; breast swelling or tenderness; acne; growth of facial hair; deepening of voice; headache or mood swings are some of the common side effects.
Seek immediate medical attention if any of the following severe side effects are suspected: Allergic reactions such as hives; rash; difficulty breathing; swelling of the face, mouth, tongue or lips; chest tightness; change in skin color; ankle swelling; weight gain; vomiting or nausea.

In case of overdose:

Proper storage of Fluoxymesterone:

Keep Fluoxymesterone away from pets and out of the reach of children.
Always store Fluoxymesterone at room temperature, between 15 and 30 degrees C (59 and 86 degrees F).
