About Human Growth Hormone

The synthetic growth hormone (HGH) is also called somatropin (British term: somatrophin). The HGH refers to the human growth hormone and is the abbreviation of Human GH (somatropin) that is extracted from the human pituitary glands. In the year 1985, the biosynthetic human growth hormone acted as the replacement for the pituitary derived HGH for the therapeutic use in the US and elsewhere. Biosynthetic human growth hormone is also known as the recombinant growth hormone. It is also known as somatropin and shortly called as rhGH. Ever since the mid 1990s, the abbreviation HGH had begun to carry the connotations that are paradoxical and it is now referred rarely as the real GH that is used for the above mentioned purposes. See the articles on GH treatment and the HGH quackery for the complete discussions of the GH therapy and the HGH issue.

What is somatropin?

The somatropin is also commonly referred to as the human growth hormone (HGH) and is a hormone that is produced in the body of the human and excreted in to the blood by the cells of somatotrope of the back of pituitary gland. It is a single chain protein that consists of 191 amino acids with the molecular weight of around 22000 Daltons.

GH secretion has many indirect as well as the direct effects on the body of the human. The GH stimulates the liver’s production of insulin like the growth factor (IGH-1). Since GH stimulates the production of IGF-1, the effects of both the GH and the IGH-1 are mentioned below:

Human Growth Hormone’s synthetic version is called somatropin or 191 amino acid sequence growth hormone). It is also similar in all aspects to the GH of human body. It is not the same case for somatrem (192 amino acid sequence growth hormone).

Somatotropin’s direct and the indirect effects on human body:

  • It stimulates the division and the multiplication of the chonodrocytes of the cartilage.
  • Increases the calcium retention and the mineralization of the bones.
  • Stimulates the growth of the cell in all the organs of the human body.
  • Increases the metabolism.
  • Repairs the damaged cells.
  • Induces the protein synthesis.
  • Decreases the protein degradation.
  • Stimulates the immune system.
  • Promotes the lipolysis.
  • Increases the transport of glucose.

In the human body, the somatotropin is at its highest level in the children and during the age of puberty thereby stimulating the growth of the body during those ages. After the puberty, the hormone secretion level declines and also continues to do so as the person grows older.

The growth hormone deficiency (GHD) is such a disease in which the pancreas of a patient fails to produce sufficient amount of normal endogenous growth hormone. In case of the children, this might result in a short height and growth failure. In case of the adults, the GHD might cause the deficiencies of strength, energy and the bone mass.

The GHD can also be treated in case of adults as well as the children with Somatropin that is also referred to as the synthetic human growth hormone (HGH). However, for treatment of the height related conditions, a child must get the treatment done prior to the maturing of the epiphyses or growth plates at the long bone ends.

The healthy adults most usually use the Human Growth Hormone for anti aging, body building and the purpose of fat loss.

Some common usage of the Human Growth Hormone:

  • Growth Hormone deficiency
  • Treating the intrauterine growth retardation (IUGR) and the small gestational age (SGA)
  • Idiopathic short stature
  • AIDS cachexia and wasting
  • Short height caused by the Turner’s syndrome
  • Short height caused by the Prader-Willi syndrome
  • Growth related issues caused by the short Bowel syndrome
  • Improper or stalled growth in children having renal disease
  • Drug for body building enhancement
  • Weight loss drug
  • Anti aging drug
  • Treatment for the children having Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Osteoporosis treatment
  • Treatment for the children having X-linked Hypophosphatemic Rickets (XLH)

Jintropin by GenSciThe Jintropin is manufactured as well as distributed by GeneScience Pharmaceuticals Co, Ltd. The GenSci is the first Chinese pharmaceutical company to take the patent for section technology in China.

GenSci was founded and established in 1997 by Doctor Lee Jin, an erstwhile Genentech researcher. It has also been tested by several other independent research organizations and it is found to be of great quality. In fact, the Jintropin is comparable to Eli Lilly’s Humatrope. Jintropin is also available in lyophilized powder form that should be mixed before use and is also delivered to the body with the help of a syringe.

Human Growth Hormone side effects

As the growth hormone is a naturally produced substance in the human body, the side effects of the HGH treatment are rather a rare possibility. Usually, these side effects are mainly caused by taking the excessive dosage of HGH than recommended and over a prolonged period of time. But HGH has occasionally been found to cause:

HypoglycemiaThe hypoglycaemia is the opposite of diabetes. In people suffering from diabetes, the body is unable to produce enough amount of insulin leading to high levels of glucose that can have dangerous consequences. People who suffer from hypoglycemia have much insulin in their body leading to too low levels of glucose. Since the HGH increases the levels of the insulin in the body, some people may suffer from the hypoglycaemia after the usage of the HGH drugs.

AcromegliaThe acromeglia is a disease that causes abnormal growth of bone. HGH cannot cause acremeglia but it can speed up the progress of the disease in people who already suffer from it.

Extended bellyWhen it is used as the body building drug, HGH can cause a body builder to have a portruted belly if the drug is not taken as per the doctor’s instructions. But this defect is rather rare in the users who take the drugs as per the instructions strictly.

Carpal Tunnel syndromeThe Carpal Tunnel syndrome is caused by the pinched nerve in the wrist. It can also lead to the loss of hand movement. HGH has been observed to have caused the carpal tunnel syndrome in users who do not intake the drug as per the directions.

Joint painSince the ability of causing growth in the person lies with the HGH, some users have reported of the joint pain while the usage of the drug. This side effect is although a temporary one.
